Water

1.1 Billion people (18% of the world’s population) lack access to safe drinking water. In a world of unprecedented wealth, almost 2 million children die each year due to a lack of clean water and inadequate sanitation. Access to clean water and sanitation can reduce the risk of a child dying by as much as 50%. Water-related diseases are the leading cause of death in the world, taking the lives of 6,000 people a day, and are responsible for 80 percent of all sickness in the world. 40 billion hours are lost annually to hauling water, a chore primarily undertaken by women and girls.
